We know that we abide in Him and He in us, because He has given us of His Spirit
(1 John 4:13).
We know. But, since no one can see God the Father (4:12), how will others know? Others will know God cares for them by our believing and by our loving. Whoever believes will experience the love of God personally. Whoever confesses that Jesus is the Son of God, God abides in him, and he in God (4:15). Because of His touch on my life, I have no problem knowing I am loved and cared for by God, and that I have great worth.
Those who know they are loved and cared for are not the fearful ones; for there is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear (4:18). There is no fear in judgment; we haveconfidence in the day of judgment (4:17). Why? Because as He is, so also are we in this world, as Jesus was the beloved Son of God, we are beloved children of God (3:1). People will know of the love of God when they see us believing in that love…when they see the joy in our lives, the strange absence of fear.
And so, His love is perfected in us (4:12)…in and through us. At our own cost, we seek the good in others that they may come to know their worth in God’s eyes.
We all know we should be touching others, caring for others. Why don’t we? What about our fear of them?
There is no fear in love, but perfect love casts out fear.
